IS BUXNEMA RIGHT FOR YOUR BOX HEDGE?

Choose BuxNema when Box Tree Caterpillars are present or your box plants require biological protection during the active season. It is especially useful for reaching caterpillars concealed within dense foliage and webbing.
1 Live caterpillars inside the hedge
2 Fine webbing around the foliage
3 Freshly chewed or skeletonised leaves
4 Active or recurring caterpillar damage

BuxNema beneficial nematodes treatment for box tree caterpillars with 60m² coverage

    HOW IT WORKS

BuxNema contains microscopic beneficial nematodes that actively seek out Box Tree Caterpillars. Once they locate a caterpillar, the nematodes enter the pest and release naturally occurring bacteria, stopping it from feeding and completing its life cycle.

Nematodes need moisture and suitable temperatures to remain active. Thorough coverage is therefore essential, particularly inside dense foliage where caterpillars commonly remain hidden.

BuxNema treats active caterpillars. It performs a different role from BuxTrap and BuxPhero, which monitor adult moth activity, and BuxBarrier, which provides protective coverage across the foliage.

    APPLICATION

    HOW TO USE

Follow these steps for effective, even coverage. Always read the product instructions before application.

    1. PREPARE THE PLANTS
Water the box plants before treatment so the foliage and surrounding soil are moist. Apply when the temperature is above 10°C and avoid strong, direct sunlight.
    2. MAKE THE STOCK SOLUTION
Mix the complete pack of BuxNema with water to make 1.5 litres of stock solution. Keep the mixture moving so the nematodes remain evenly distributed.
    3. DILUTE AND APPLY
Add 500ml of stock solution to 4.5 litres of water in a clean five-litre sprayer or watering can. Apply this mixture over 10m². Repeat three times to treat the full 30m² area.
    4. COMPLETE THE TREATMENT
Apply the mixed solution within two hours. Keep the treated area moist afterwards and repeat foliar applications every 7–14 days during periods of active caterpillar pressure.
    SEASONAL GUIDANCE

    WHEN TO USE

Use BuxNema when temperatures are consistently above 10°C and Box Tree Caterpillars are present or expected.

In February, apply the solution to both the soil and plants to target overwintering caterpillars. From March to September, apply it thoroughly to the foliage every 7–14 days while caterpillars are active. During September and October, treat both the plants and surrounding soil.

Apply during a cool, overcast period or in the evening. Avoid strong sunlight and do not allow the treated foliage to dry immediately after application.

    EXPERT ADVICE

Nematodes are living organisms, so moisture, temperature and application timing make a significant difference. Pre-water the plants, apply in the evening or during overcast weather and work the spray deep into the hedge. Use the complete mixture within two hours and keep agitating it during application.
